Derech Eretz Leadership Development Program

Oak Park Temple is experiencing an exciting transition in rabbinic leadership. Rabbi Max Weiss brings fresh guidance and direction for our community, but a rabbi can only do so much. OPT needs congregants to step forward and help. Derech Eretz (literally "the way of the land"), Oak Park Temple's new Leadership Development Program, is designed to ensure that there are well-informed volunteers to lead our congregation into the future. The committee has worked with Rabbi Weiss to create a dynamic program that will train and support our many talented and dedicated lay leaders.

Derech Eretz is a series of workshops held on the second Thursday of each month over the next six months. Topics include the workings and history of our synagogue and the Reform Movement, being a Jewish leader, and skills of successful leaders. At the end of the series, the Derech Eretz committee will help participants find leadership positions within the temple.

Everyone is welcome to participate in Derech Eretz. We encourage congregants interested in becoming more actively involved to take this as their first step. Congregants who have demonstrated leadership potential and current lay leaders, trustees, and officers are also encouraged to further develop their leadership skills and knowledge.

Derech Eretz will run from 7:00-9:00 pm on January 14, February 11, March 11, April 8, May 13 and June 10.

For more information, please contact a Derech Eretz committee member: Monte Lewis, Deb Welleck Wolkstein, Sue Blaine, Gabe Plotkin, Dan Landsman, and Laura Kaufman.
